So much awesome happened this weekend aaaaaaaaah

I turned 20 yesterday, which is awesome. No longer a teen, whoo! 'Wicked' happened to be playing in the local performing arts center this month, and my mom was awesome and got me tickets! My sister came down and saw the show with me and holy crap. It was awesome. It deviates quite a bit from the book (which I only read half of, a long time ago, but I could still tell it kind of took an axe to the source...) but it was still really enjoyable. The first part of the first act was kind of meh, but it got awesome right before the act break and in the second act. The stage effects were amazing, the costumes were amazing, the music was amazing. I loved it.

Also got comics for my birthday! Some I bought myself (Batman Beyond 1 and 2) and some my roommates got me for my birthday (Justice League Europe #1 (from the 80s!) and some 90s X-men title). Haven't read the comics my friends got me yet, but I just finished Batman Beyond and fafdafadfkjkldsafd it was awesome.

Terry teaming up with the future Justice League will always make for awesomeness, because the future league is COOL. And I am going to continue to ship Batman/Aquagirl EVEN THOUGH THEY'VE SPOKEN LIKE TWICE NOW. I said in my review of Hush Beyond that I had some issues with how they write Terry and Bruce, and I think they are improving. Terry is back to cracking jokes and being a smartass, and I can hear his dialogue in my head as being spoken by the show's VA, so that's an improvement over the miniseries. Bruce still feels more like the comic Bats then Cartoon Bats, but it's not as extreme as it was in the miniseries. He just... back-seat superheroes a whole lot more in the comics then the cartoon. Also, Terry family and Dana are actually getting some active roles in the comic! The cartoon was pretty careful to keep them out of danger, and even when their lives were threatened by the Joker in the movie, we didn't see them in danger. I like that they give Terry a reason to be careful and that they themselves show signs of bravery. Having a family is the biggest difference between Terry and Bruce, and I'm glad the comic writers are taking advantage of that.

Ah damn, that got way too long. I came here to talk about my birthday, not Batman.

'Kay, so, I got a letter in the mail the other day offering me a chance to apply as a Student Orientation Leader this summer. Which pays really well and would really, I need the job.

But today, it snowed. Like, an inch. So the whole city shut down. It's going to snow a bit tomorrow. So classes have been canceled for two days in a row.

Another thing that's been canceled? The only information meeting for Orientation applicants that I can make. djhfdkjshfdjshasa

Gave a call to the people running this stuff, going to find out if I can just stop by their offices to get some of this information, and I'll still apply. Bleh.

There was also a meet-n-greet type thing for the apartments I want to move into next year tomorrow evening, on campus, which will probably also be canceled. But that wasn't nearly as important.

Other then all that stuff, this is shaping up to be a good week. Because of the snow day, my roomies and I had a girls-day-out to enjoy the snow. (Well... I'm used to snow and don't give a damn, but one is from Utah and the other is from India, and aren't used to snow so it's still cool to them) It was pretty awesome. Tomorrow I'm just going to enjoy a day to myself. And Saturday I turn 20! My sis is coming into town because Wicked happens to me in the local theatre on my birthday, and my mom bought tickets for me and my sis! So awesome!

Also, I just realized that since classes are canceled tomorrow I'll miss my geology lab D: Oh noes, I like that class! We were gonna do sedimentary rock identification, too!

Pic Shows Man Robbing Stores With Klingon Sword.

Serious. A guy robbed a 7-11 with a bat'leth.

I can't help but think what I would do if I were the clerk working at the 7-11. Give him the money and then strike up a conversation, probably.

In other news, today's my birthday!

Ha ha, today was a long day.

See, my dad is a renewable energy research chemist. He works with a big renewable energy company that's funded by the government. And in our state, they put on a 'Science Bowl' for high schoolers. Basically, high schools put together teams of 4-5 kids and come be a part of a little competition with... buzzers and chemistry/math/astronomy questions and stuff. Ever since I was 8 or so, I've been a 'runner' for them. Basically, between rounds of questions, I go around and collect the scores and take them back to the people keeping track of who's in the lead and whatnot. Today was this year's competition, and the last year I'll be a runner. So, today involved a lot of walking around and cutting through crowds of high schoolers that DON'T KNOW HOW TO NOT BLOCK HALLWAYS JESUS CHRIST* and talking to science-y types and stuff.

That was from... oh, 7am to 4pm. And then I got home and remembered, oh, I was invited to go laser tagging for a friends birthday at 5:30! Of course... said friend didn't tell anyone where we were laser tagging. Aaaand other friends could not get a hold of birthday friend. Eventually we got the address, but... it seemed wrong. But, we decide to meet birthday friend anyways. And while we're car-pooling there, we get a phone call - birthday friend was totally wrong about address of laser tag place! It's really all the way across town, in the 'burbs! So, we were already downtown. So we just got pizza at an awesome pizza place/goth bar, poked around a Hot Topic to make fun of goth kids (and my friends tried to get me to try on some leather pants - not gonna happen) and then poke around a book store some. Then I got home around 8:45.

So. Long day. And next weekend will be long too, as I'm doing some band stuff all day on Friday and Saturday. Also, I turn 18 on the 5th! I'm going to take people out bowling. While wearing funny hats. Yeah. Fun times!

Time to pass out now.

*By the way, might as well explain why this pisses me off so much. I have Enochlophobia, the fear of crowds. Being surrounded by more then 8 people can upset me, and group hugs honestly scare me. If I'm stuck in a big crowd too long, I start to panic, hyperventilate, and, on one occasion, have an anxiety attack and need to be taken to the nurse's office. So, I hate when people stand in the middle of halls/block doorways/etc. It really bothers me. Interestingly enough, I don't have Claustrophobia or Agoraphobia at all.

Huh. Wow, I haven't posted in a while. And I haven't really had time to do the arts stuff. But, um, rambling time?

This week has been a pretty fantastic week. It was spirit week at school, and we had some pretty interesting themes. Lets see, they were: 50s day, Superhero day, Disney day, Rave day, and School Color day. I've never done spirit week before, but this time I did, and it was a lot of fun! Monday I dressed up like James Dean, Tuesday I made myself a Batman Beyond shirt, Wednesday I was Disney's Mulan (complete with Little Dragon as Mushu :3) Thursday I got to wear my old parachute-type pants, and today my hair is purple. Fun times!

My weekend is going to be crazy busy, though, because I'm going to Nan Desu Kan. I'll be there this evening, most of the day on Saturday, and probably Sunday morning. Saturday is also my school's homecoming parade, and I'm going to be riding the band/choir float dressed in a marching band uniform and carrying my saxaphone. So... busy, but a fun kind of busy.

Also, today is my dad's 54th birthday. He's spending it off in the mountains, fishing by himself, as he has for the past few years. He's one of the coolest people I know, and I hope he'll live another 54 years. (I'm sure he will, he's really healthy)

Oh, and as for T9 - I'll still have access to a computer, so I should be able to post their at least a few times over the weekend. And the hotel the con is at has wifi, so I'm going to take my DS and finally get to do some online pokemon playin'!

Well, got some arts for you all today.

Lookie lookie! )

In other news, my throat feels like there is a little gremlin sitting in it, scrapping away all the inside. And my sinuses pretty much exploded. Icky, icky cold.

For the hundredth time in my life, I am really glad I can't get strep throat.

For I have successfully completed the 16th level of this castle. Let's hope I don't get killed by a monster before the end of level 17, yes?

My gift to myself was new LJ icons. I was getting tired of the old Amred art, so I switched it out to photos of stuff animals, toys, and my cats. Yay!

Sketch of the day/week/month/whatever )

Well, that's it from me.

Got my colored pencils back from D. Started playing around with 'em on [livejournal.com profile] gogoicarus's birthday present. I tried out some new stuff, with smashing results.

Mmmmmyes, arts )

I got a gift card to a big local art store as an early birthday present from my folks. I'm thinking of getting some more colored pencils and maybe some watercolor paper. And then I'll made D replace the colored pencils she LOST WHEN I LENT THEM TO HER. Garrrrr....

So, a pokemon RP got started on my forum. All the players are kinda having an issue with the GM, but it's going relatively smoothly for a WoA rp. (However, the server's been down for a while, so it's kinda hit a grinding halt) All of the characters are just setting out from Pallet... except for me. I worked it out with the GM so I could be someone's older brother and use my team from FR.

And lo, did doodles come out of this.

Grab your balls, boys, and let's roll )

And just a quick little note; Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] gogoicarus, who turned 26 yesterday!

And my friend D turns 17 this Friday.

.....and just continuing along that line of thought, I turn 17 on February 5th. Which is actually probably gonna suck, because it's our state's caucus AND Mardi Gras, so I'll probably hear either 'Vote for -candidate-' or 'Gimme beads and I'll strip!' all day long instead of 'Happy Birthday!' Bleeeeeeeh.
