Wow, I have pretty much completely jumped ship over to Tumblr, haven't I? Well... actually no, not really. I mean, I check my f-list and lurk at a few communities, but I've just found Tumblr to be a much better place to post art and thoughts off the top of my head. If I post at LJ, I feel like I need to plan it out or something so that it's substantial. :/

Buuut I do have some stuff I want to post today. Art stuff. Batman Beyond stuff. No cut because these ramblings are stupid but I don't care.

So I've seriously gotten into Tiger & Bunny, and felt like drawing a redesign of Terry's batsuit based on the power armor from T&B. Then I wound up with an idea for an AU.

Basically, Terry is born in the T&B ‘verse, but goes through much of the same events as his original canon (parents have an ugly divorce; he briefly joins a gang and spends some time in juvie; his dad works at a company that does weapons R&D and gets murdered after learning something he wasn’t supposed to know), but in a different ‘verse, so when he decides to seek revenge, things go a bit differently. Since he has no powers, and a criminal background, he has no chance of doing like Barnaby and becoming a sponsored hero. So he steals an armor suit (either an old suit from another hero, or an in-development suit from the company his dad worked at) and goes out to seek his revenge on his own. He tries to avoid the cameras of Hero TV as best he can, but eventually gets caught on tape, and rumors about a new hero abound. He continues to work on getting his revenge on his own, but occasionally has run-ins with the sponsored heroes, and quickly gains anti-hero status in the eyes of the public (ala Lunatic, but without the murdering). No one knows who this mysterious “Batman” is, or why he’s not working under a company, or if he even has any powers. But they do know that, with him around, the superstitious and cowardly criminal underbelly of Sternbilt is starting to be a lot more careful…

I DESPERATELY WANT TO RP THIS. Does... does anyone know of a T&B game that accepts characters from outside the show?

mormons and jedi, such a weird combination

I JUST HAD THE WEIRDEST NIGHT OH MY GOD

So, my Mormon roommate has been trying very hard to get the other roommates to go to church with her. She convinced one of the roommates (a lapsed Catholic) to go to a few things, and now Catholic roomie is feeling awkward because she's not interested in converting but the Mormons are being kind of... peer pressure-y. She'd been invited to go and talk to some missionaries tonight, and asked me to come along as support (since I was raised atheist and take no bullshit when it comes to people trying to convert me).

And holy fuck, that was the most awkward meeting of my life. Mormon missionaries (or maybe it was just these guys) have this weird way of singling people out to see what they know about Christianity, and when I admitted to being raised atheist, the pressure came down. They were asking me to give praying a shot and... no. Just no. Sorry, but no. I do not believe in your god. I'm agnostic, and leaning towards Deist, and believe that even if there is a higher power, they aren't concerned with my petty mortal earthling shit. It was so awkward to say that to them and back it up - especially since this little meeting was IN THEIR CHURCH. fakhdkadasdf

Never again. Sorry, Mormon Roomie, I love ya, but no. That was just too awkward.

BUT. THIS WAS NOT THE ONLY THING THAT HAPPENED TONIGHT.

As we were walking back home from the church, we saw the glowing... thing inbetween some buildings on campus. We got closer and it was some dudes. FIGHTING WITH LIGHTSABERS. We talked to them, and found out that they're just a sort-of Star Wars, sort-of high fantasy, sort-of cyber-punk (!!!) group that doesn't really roleplay, but just hang out and shoot the shit and play with awesome lightsabers.

So they gave me their card. THEY HAVE A CARD! I think I might have to go to one of their get-togethers because they were really friendly and nerdy and they had a light-saber-wielding mach 1 Ironman. Seriously.

HOMESTUCK HOMESTUCK HOMESTUCK

I think my roommate is worried I'm a serial killer now.

I was pointlessly yammering on about my fantroll, even though she doesn't read or care about HS. But I wanted some input about what weapon my troll should use. The conversation went a bit like this:

Me: So yeah, I still have a lot of stuff I need to come up with for my troll, like a weapon. I want the weapon to have something to do with geology, but I'm not sure what to go with.
Her: Well, what kind of tools do geologists use? Like hammers and stuff, right? And don't you use acid for something?
Me: Yeah, we use hydrochloric acid to identify calcite in rocks. But the only way I could think to weaponize that is as a gun, which I don't like the sound of. And someone in the comic already uses a hammer.
Her: Well, then don't go with geology stuff. What kind of things do you like?
Me: Hmm. Well, I do love power tools.
Her: Oooh, give the troll an electric drill as a weapon!
Me: No, wait, I've got it! A cordless electric sander! Drills have been done, why not a sander? That would be awesome, she could, like... sand people's faces off.
Her: 8|
Me: Oh. Oh, wow. That was, uh. That was pretty dark.
Her: ...we're sleeping with the lights on for the rest of the semester.

Still going with the sander, though. Still need to come up with her title and planet.

bluh bluh huge nerd

Back in NM for school, ugh. Actually, I came back last night, because this morning I had to take a Teaching Basic Skills test. Which is a standardized test would-be teachers have to take before becoming accepted in the College of Education of most schools in NM. I think I did fine on it, really. Reading comprehension/grammar portion was incredibly easy, and the math part was actually not that bad. Get my scores back in February, so I'm eagerly waiting for that.

I have some arts today! Lots of it, actually. I don't know what it was, but I was drawing a lot over the break.

genocidal asshole to stoner juggalo. astrology sucks.

So I heard that Ophiuchus has been added to the western Zodiac. I really don't care about astrology, but I find this amusing for two reasons.

1. When my dad and I stargaze, he always points that constellation out as 'The Teapot'. I'll never be able to not think of it as that. So now 'the teapot' is a zodiac sign, and that tickles me.
2. I'm now a Capricorn. As I've said, I don't give a fuck about astrology - but this means I'm no longer an Aquarius. Which is awesome, because Gamzee is cooler then Eridan.

I have no idea how many people on my f-list will get that reference.

Also, I made a thing. A jewelry, geology nerd thing.

i have so many words on this

I finally got my hands on the Batman Beyond miniseries comics! Well, sort of. I went to the comic store for the first time in months the other week, and they had issues 4-6, so I bought those. But they didn't have 1-3 and didn't think any store in town would. So I resorted to buying online... but couldn't find issue 1. BUT. I got 2-6, so I at least got to read them. Here's my thoughts on the miniseries, under the cut because of spoilers.

Hush Beyond spoilers )

Wooooow, TL;DR. Congrats to whoever read through all my nerdy ramblings. So, long story short: There are some problems with characterization and the villains, but I still really enjoyed the series. I look forward to the ongoing series, and hope the fandom will get more active. Oh, and expect some icons from the comic from me soon.

i always take the wrong things away from shakespeare

What does it say about me that while reading The Tempest for the first time, I keep thinking about how I want Ariel/Puck buddy fic really, really bad? I don't even read fic, but I want to see something where the two meet and at discuss their similar situations and then Puck whisks Ariel away from that dick Prospero and the two go and play pranks on mortals for all time.

...I'm not sure if I'm, like, missing a point of the play or something by finding Ariel and Caliban to be sad and awesome woobies that should totally be the heroes of the play. I guess I'll see after I finish the play and when I take a course on Shakespeare next year.

Day 07 - Least favorite episode of your favorite TV show

Justice League Unlimited, "Epilogue"

Okay, so it isn't really a Batman Beyond episode, but since it was meant to serve as an ending to the series, I'll count it as such.

And I hate it. Haaaaaate it. I've heard so many people say that they think it ties up the series and makes sense of it, and I just don't get that. 1) The series already had a great ending, both in its own series and in the movie. 2) The series ALREADY MADE SENSE, this just made it STUPID.

I hate that Terry became Bruce's son in this. As far as I'm concerned, that is not canon. It destroys Terry's character. The thing I loved about him was that he was nothing like Bruce. He wasn't like the Robins, either. A fuck this whole 'he was destined to be Batman' bullshit. That contradicts some of the greatest moments Terry's had, where he pointed out that he chose to be Batman, he stole the Batsuit on his own, he didn't wait for Bruce to adopt him like the Robins.

That episode ruined Terry. It will never be canon for me.

In other news, over the summer I've been working on a playlist for Villain Songs from musicals. There's just something about villain songs... they're often the grandest, most elaborate, and most fun numbers in any musical. So far, my list is over 2 hours long, and I'm still trying to find more songs for it. Unfortunately, some of my favorites are hard to come by (like Snake in the Grass from The Little Prince), but I'm still pretty pleased with what I have. I'm going to go ahead and put the list under the cut, so if you'd like, take a look. And if you have any suggestions, I'll take 'em!

Day 03 - Your favorite new show (aired this TV season)

Um, well, we aren't really in a season right now, except for some of the cable channels, being summer and all. And I didn't watch anything new last season - I didn't have a tv, so I don't even know if there were any new shows. So I guess I'll talk about my favorite show that was returning this past season.

And that was Doctor freaking Who.

How can I even BEGIN to describe how much I loved that season? Just. Wow. Everything about it, from the characters to the plot to the new look I just loved. Matt Smith, especially. He still hasn't taken the place of 'Favorite Doctor' in my heart that Eccleston currently occupies, but man was he fantastic. I'm going to put myself at risk of being torn apart by fangirls/boys saying this, but I think he's a far better Doctor then Tennant was. While David was a good Doctor, he wasn't quite right, I think. He was too human - he fell in love with Rose, he could blend in with humans too easily... he just wasn't alien enough in my opinion. But Matt... from the very first moment I saw the first promo image of him in his costume, he felt like the Doctor to me. He's so strange and non-human. I love that Matt gives him such an old feel, almost grandfatherly, despite being the youngest actor to play the character.

And the story for this season... holy crap. I'll avoid spoilers, but I'll just say it was awesome. Again, going to get torn apart by the fans, but I highly prefer Moffat's writing to Davies'. While it was fun trying to pick up on the codewords during RTD's seasons, when it finally got down to the finale episode, it always felt like there wasn't enough build up. But The Moff, on the other hand, gave the season a structured feeling, so that even though there were stand alone episodes, they all had a part in the plot and lead up to something grand and amazing.

This season was great, and left me desperately wanting to see more (aaaand maybe RP a certain character >.>), which is why I can safely say it was my favorite show this season.

tvtropes meme, yay

I've seen this meme all over the place, and have been meaning to do it for a while.

Pick 20 movies/anime/video games/literary works and put their summaries from Better than it Sounds and WITHOUT CHEATING have your friends guess.

Warning, though, I made up quite a few of these myself, either because they weren't on TVtropes, or the ones that were there were too obvious. List contains: 4 films, 3 live action tv shows, 5 books, 2 plays, 2 animes, 2 bands, and 2 cartoons.

attack of the rabid plot bunnies

Nnnnnneeeeerg, damn it, Doctor Who. Damn you and your most recent plot arc that's making me want someone to play 11 at T9 so that I can bounce Rei off of him since Rei draws his powers from the cracks in time and nnnnerg. No, bad Amred. There have only been three episodes with 11 so far, do not go getting ideas.

Actually, I'd like any of the Doctors to show up at T9 (and stay) so I can bounce Rei off of them. I just feel like it would be really interesting to see two time travelers with such vastly different ideas on time traveling get together. I'd especially like to see the Doctor's reaction to Rei's utter ruthlessness when it comes to protecting the time stream. But nnnnnn giving myself ideas with no way to act on them must stoooop.

Also, I changed my default icon again. Since I like using a photo of myself as my icon, I try to keep it current. That and I kind of didn't like my whole face being in the icon - something about cropping just appeals to me.

random musings

When I first heard the term 'drag race' I was about six or seven, and my first thought was "Wow, it's really mean to make a bunch of guys run around a track in dresses and high heels." I didn't realize that a drag race actually involved cars until I was almost out of middle school. I kind of prefer my version.

So I think I might be allergic to the handsoap that's put up in the dorm bathroom. My hands have been rather dry lately, and the past few days they've been really red and raw. I stopped using the soap in the bathroom in my dorm for a few days, and bought some of my own for my room, and my hands have been doing a lot better. Lotion has also helped. Still, I'm a bit concerned that soap is potentially making my hands just raw as hell.

Cybersix is fucking amazing. I didn't hear about this show until just a few hours ago, but I tracked it down and have watched a few episodes and oh my god. Awesome. There's only 13 episodes though, and I'm kind of scared of watching the whole thing because I know I'll get attached to it and just feel sad when it's over. I wonder if there are translations of the original Argentinian comics floating around somewhere?

Got done reading Blackest Night. Very awesome, and I really want to continue reading The Flash now. I'm a bit disappointed with the ending, but it was still very enjoyable. A good gateway comic, I think.

And lastly, meme snagged from [livejournal.com profile] umi_mikazuki under the cut:
