It's funny - people keep telling me that they think Scarlet is too masculine, or that she's butch, or that she's not girly enough. People, please. She is a captain of a smuggling ship. The crew tends to just sit around in space. I'm sure that the doldrums there are even worse then on water. She has to be manly; she's on a ship full of lonely men. She's not going to be a little prissy girl like Keira Knightly.
I saw Hellboy 2 yesterday, and over all, I liked it. It had some serious parts, but even then the writers knew when to throw in just the right line to keep everything light. It was ridiculous at some parts, to the point that the entire theatre I was in was laughing. And I absolutely love Guillermo del Toro for putting Ron Perlman and Doug Jones in actual suits instead of going 100% CGI. (I love prosthetics, as a bit of the acting is lost in CGI - and that's why I'm a bit disappointed that Dr. Manhattan will be CGI'ed for Watchmen.)
There were a few faults, the biggest being that you really do need to see the first movie. A few bits from it were tossed in, but for the most part, it will make more sense. I also haven't read any of the comics, so I can't vouch for accuracy. Also, if you're thinking of seeing this just because you like del Toro's previous work, don't. This isn't El Espinazo del Diablo, it isn't Pan's Labyrinth. This is no dark story about communist Spain told through a child's eyes. This is an action-comedy about a big red guy, his pyrokinetic girlfriend, and his psychic fish friend. It's fun, but not for everyone.
Is anyone else getting tired of the Dark Knight viral campaign? It looks like a good movie, but I swear to god, if I see one more 'Why so serious' icon or a 'vote Harvey Dent' sticker, I am going to start stabbing things. BATMAN FANS: IF YOU ARE GOING TO SHAKE IT OVER THE JOKER, DO SO WERE I DON'T HAVE TO PUT UP WITH IT, JESUS CHRIST.
