More updates on my car.

Power steering pump and/or rack and pinon are having problems. I'm going to take it to a mechanic tomorrow and have them take a look at it (again - got steering fluid checked last week and they warned me about this). Basically, the steering pump is really noisy when I'm turning. When I turn at an intersection, the steering is mostly smooth until the end of the turn, right before I let the wheel slide back into being straight - at this point, it shudders, makes a whirring noise, and is difficult to control. Fixing all of this may cost me upwards of $1400. My parents are willing to pay for it, but I hate that I've had to make them pay for a new battery, new tires and wheels, and now a whole lot of other new shit.

Though they're throwing around the idea of getting me a new car. I'm not too sure how I feel about that.

In other news, Arthurian lore is one big cluster-fuck of continuity. I will never again complain about movies/tv shows/etc not "getting the lore right" because there are so many conflicting versions of the stories, it's ridiculous.

I'm thinking about starting a Tumblr. I've been eying the sight for a while as a sketch blog. I know I keep saying that this is my sketch blog, but I always feel weird posting just one image, so I save things up until I have a lot of art and then I don't really have anything to say about the stuff. I kind of feel Tumblr would be a nice place to just post random doodles as I draw them, and then keep art dump days on LJ. Maybe. I don't know.

Day 02 - A show that you wish more people were watching

Warehouse 13.

I know so many people who just dismissed this show as an X-files rip off, or some sort of Indiana Jones rip off (I dunno, something with the warehouse? I couldn't even get 30 minutes into Indiana Jones). Sure, the show may take ideas from other places, but the story lines and characters themselves are actually very original. It's a fun show, with lots of wonderfully nerdy references and enjoyable characters. It's mostly fluff, yes, but that's okay, because the show has energy to carry itself. It's certainly one of my favorite shows currently on air.

In other news, I've kind of lost my voice, and that sucks.

When I first heard the term 'drag race' I was about six or seven, and my first thought was "Wow, it's really mean to make a bunch of guys run around a track in dresses and high heels." I didn't realize that a drag race actually involved cars until I was almost out of middle school. I kind of prefer my version.

So I think I might be allergic to the handsoap that's put up in the dorm bathroom. My hands have been rather dry lately, and the past few days they've been really red and raw. I stopped using the soap in the bathroom in my dorm for a few days, and bought some of my own for my room, and my hands have been doing a lot better. Lotion has also helped. Still, I'm a bit concerned that soap is potentially making my hands just raw as hell.

Cybersix is fucking amazing. I didn't hear about this show until just a few hours ago, but I tracked it down and have watched a few episodes and oh my god. Awesome. There's only 13 episodes though, and I'm kind of scared of watching the whole thing because I know I'll get attached to it and just feel sad when it's over. I wonder if there are translations of the original Argentinian comics floating around somewhere?

Got done reading Blackest Night. Very awesome, and I really want to continue reading The Flash now. I'm a bit disappointed with the ending, but it was still very enjoyable. A good gateway comic, I think.

And lastly, meme snagged from [ profile] umi_mikazuki under the cut:

I've been feeling just... off, lately. I've had some trouble sleeping, where I wake up at hour-intervals for the last 3 or 4 hours of sleep. I almost fell asleep standing up in the shower this morning (?!?) and I've been having problems staying awake in class, even though I find the subject matter interesting. I actually took a nap this afternoon, because I was just so freaking tired. I feel much more refreshed now, but I realized that I really, really didn't want to get out of bed when I woke up. I'm kind of wondering if I'm getting depressed, and haven't really noticed it. Because this is exactly what I do when I'm depressed, but I just haven't felt all that depressed lately. I dunno.

My roommate moved out at the end of last semester, and I wasn't assigned a new one. While I wasn't really close with my roomie, I at least had someone I could talk to when I got back from classes in the afternoon. Now I don't, and I feel really isolated.

Day 5: My favorite quote

"In every first novel the hero is the author as Christ or Faust." - Oscar Wilde (possibly)

I like it, because it's true.

What's this? An art update? And less then a month after the last one? Madness!

A dapper pokemon trainer, a non-stereotypical cat girl pirate, Katara, and a squid )

In other news, my iPod my finally be dying.

And I possibly have a slight case of pink eye. My right eye is really red, and a bit dry/itchy. Though, I haven't really had any other symptoms of pink eye, and while the redness was really bad last night, it's been going down and is barely noticeable now. But I'm trying not to touch it or rub it, just in case.
amredthelector: (Oh noes mudkip!)
So evidently, my eyes are crooked. No, seriously. I've been wearing glasses since 3rd grade, and every time I get a new pair, the right side always feels lower then the left. As, I don't see any part of the frame in my left eye, but I can see the top of the frame in my right eye. So I always have to adjust my glasses so that while they look crooked on my face, I can see through them without being bother by anything.

Today I was getting my glasses adjusted, and I kept telling the eye tech to raise the right side. When she pointed out that the glasses were straight on my face to begin with, she sort of sat back and looked at my face. And it turns out that my right eye is ever so slightly higher then my left eye. Which is kind of weird.

What's also weird, but less so? My left ear is smaller and higher then my right ear. :O Crazy, man.
amredthelector: (Spoink hat)
So, I'm back! College orientation was decent - I met some nice people and learned what kind of classes I would have to take to get my degree in Secondary English Education. Evidently, it's got some of the most required courses of other teaching subjects the college offers. For instance, if I were to go into it, I would have to take three social behavior (psychology and the like) classes, and two history of fine art classes. Not to mention over 50 hours worth of English elective classes.

But that's okay, because this really is a subject I love. I love learning about it, I love sharing it with people. Though, I will go in undeclared in case I change my mind on what I want to do with my life half way through the year.

And supposedly I sound old? I dunno, other teens in my orientation group were noticing that I watch what I eat, I always wake up before 8 am, I won't drink soda before noon, etc. According to them, that makes me seem like an adult. :/ I don't really look at it like that myself, and I think most of it was just good habits that rubbed off on me from dating a health nut for almost three years. I just want to make healthy choices with my life and avoid the freshman 15 or hangovers.

Got a laptop, too! Yaaaay! :D
amredthelector: (scooter hate)
Bluuurgly stomach's not being nice to me today. I blame sudden wierd eating habits. Allergies are also going nuts which is SO MUCH FUN blag

So this swine flu thing? Kiiiind of annoying me a bit. Not the illness itself, but rather the people who talk about it. A few nights ago, there was this Daily Show skit in which John Oliver was 'reporting from the center of disease control' and Jason Jones was 'reporting from the center of stuff I just heard from some guy'. Oliver was rationally explaining the virus and how to stay healthy, Jones was making ridiculous statements about how Oliver had the flu and as now a zombie.
No, stupid classmates, the flu is not going to wipe out 2/3 of the population of earth in one week. No, it is not the next black plague. THERE HAVE BEEN NO CASES IN THIS STATE SO SHUT UP AND SIT DOWN AND WASH YOUR HANDS DAMN IT.

What's even worse? Some people at my school (mostly white kids) are saying that if they get the flu, it'll be, and this is word-for-word from what someone said to me, 'Because all these damn mexicans at this school go down to mexico to visit family and come back contaminated'. Nothing like a disease to bring out the rascism.

So, I've been trying to be healthier (eat better, work out more) this year, so that I can get into good habits for when I go off to college. Turns out I've been doing a good job - I did some calculations for BMI, and turns out I've gained about five pounds of muscle mass.

I'm pretty stoked about this, because I've always been skinny but not really healthy. So, this is a pretty big accomplishment for me.

Ha ha, today was a long day.

See, my dad is a renewable energy research chemist. He works with a big renewable energy company that's funded by the government. And in our state, they put on a 'Science Bowl' for high schoolers. Basically, high schools put together teams of 4-5 kids and come be a part of a little competition with... buzzers and chemistry/math/astronomy questions and stuff. Ever since I was 8 or so, I've been a 'runner' for them. Basically, between rounds of questions, I go around and collect the scores and take them back to the people keeping track of who's in the lead and whatnot. Today was this year's competition, and the last year I'll be a runner. So, today involved a lot of walking around and cutting through crowds of high schoolers that DON'T KNOW HOW TO NOT BLOCK HALLWAYS JESUS CHRIST* and talking to science-y types and stuff.

That was from... oh, 7am to 4pm. And then I got home and remembered, oh, I was invited to go laser tagging for a friends birthday at 5:30! Of course... said friend didn't tell anyone where we were laser tagging. Aaaand other friends could not get a hold of birthday friend. Eventually we got the address, but... it seemed wrong. But, we decide to meet birthday friend anyways. And while we're car-pooling there, we get a phone call - birthday friend was totally wrong about address of laser tag place! It's really all the way across town, in the 'burbs! So, we were already downtown. So we just got pizza at an awesome pizza place/goth bar, poked around a Hot Topic to make fun of goth kids (and my friends tried to get me to try on some leather pants - not gonna happen) and then poke around a book store some. Then I got home around 8:45.

So. Long day. And next weekend will be long too, as I'm doing some band stuff all day on Friday and Saturday. Also, I turn 18 on the 5th! I'm going to take people out bowling. While wearing funny hats. Yeah. Fun times!

Time to pass out now.

*By the way, might as well explain why this pisses me off so much. I have Enochlophobia, the fear of crowds. Being surrounded by more then 8 people can upset me, and group hugs honestly scare me. If I'm stuck in a big crowd too long, I start to panic, hyperventilate, and, on one occasion, have an anxiety attack and need to be taken to the nurse's office. So, I hate when people stand in the middle of halls/block doorways/etc. It really bothers me. Interestingly enough, I don't have Claustrophobia or Agoraphobia at all.

Hello, internet. You should all be told now - when I have little interaction with any of my offline friends for two weeks, I get chatty. So. Today went from Awesome to Bad to Worse to Better to Awesome Again.

It started out when I went to my Kung Fu class this morning. I was walking the two blocks from my house to the dojo. My house is on a nice, quiet street, Dojo is on a major street. Located in a sort of... triangle from the two locations is an orphanage which has a little natural area that a bunch of red foxes live in. They hunt along a ditch that runs underground from the orphanage and opens up close to the dojo. I was at the busy street, about to cross at a light to get to the dojo, and whoosh this fox jumps up from the ditch, races across the quiet cross street, and runs past me, rounds the alley corner, and is gone. It was a young one, or just small - about a foot tall and two feet long. And I know this because it was A FOOT AWAY FROM ME. Just... just... just... squeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

When I got into the dojo, I went to the bathroom to change into my uniform... and threw up. So they sent me home. This was about... 11:15.

I got home, fell asleep, watched some tv, and then about 1:30, ate some lunch. And then I threw up again.

Then, tired and icky and upset, I poked around on the internet. And saw the The 11th Doctor. I know wank is coming from all over the place about the choice, but I like him. He's really young, yes, but he's kinda... weird lookin'. I always felt Tennent looked too normal for the Doctor, but this guy looks like a younger 9. (Also, this fits with me and my friend's theory that Time Lords age backwards, and that the wizard Merlin was a Time Lord.) Also, I was able to eat dinner and keep it down.

And finally, the awesome again part. There's an indie movie theatre downtown. Once a month, they find rare/significant/historic movies and show them for free. We went this week, and the movie was Fred Astaire and Ginger Roger's Top Hat. This... this was one of my favorite movies as a kid. This was the reason I wanted a top hat. Seeing in on the big screen was, like... the universe's way of apologizing for me feeling like crap. Thanks, Universe.

Okay, that's it. I'm going to go sleep some more, 'cause I'm just... bleh.

I think my cat has kitty laryngitis. She's a very vocal cat, running around the house shouting her head off. But for the past few days, her meow has been very quiet.

It went from a loud sort of 'MER-YEEEER!' should to a soft, raspy kind of 'myrk' sound. It's really weird.
amredthelector: (Default)
So, after 10 years having AOL as a shoddy internet provider, my parents finally broke down and signed up for Qwest. Now we'll also have cable, which is pretty sweet. And fast internet. And possibly wifi for my DS to hook up to. Yaaaay!

On a side note: I really should have gotten stitches in my thumb. The cut is healing in that it's not as deep, but it's a bit too wide to heal on the surface. I've used super glue to sort of squish the edges closer together, and hopefully that'll speed up the process.
amredthelector: (MomoTendou)
To prove that there is a difference between 'intelligence' and 'common sense', this is basically the conversation I had with my dad when I showed him the cut on my thumb today:

Dad: Jesus Christ. How did you even do that? thumb was in the bagel hole....?
Dad: ................You are such an idiot.
Me: ............yeeeah...
Dad: *inspecting cut* Holy shit. You should have gotten stitches for this!
Me: I've had worse.
Dad: ........ and why didn't you get stitches for those?
Me: Because.... I'm an idiot?
Dad: No question there.

>.> Yeah.

The cut is doing pretty good, though. It's started to heal up at the edges, and I don't think it's as deep any more. I put super glue on it, and it's doing okay. I don't think it needed stitches. (Then again, I've always let bad cuts heal without stitches, and have broken ribs, a finger, fractured a arm, and fractured a leg without getting any medical treatment. Either I'm pretty damn tough, or really THAT stupid.)

Also, I discovered Patty Melts today. Oh man. OM NOM NOM
amredthelector: (nom nom nom)
So, just a few minutes ago, I was cutting a bagel for my lunch with a large bread knife. Now, considering the bad luck I have with knives, you'd think I wouldn't have stuck my left thumb in the bagel hole as I was cutting. But, I was being careless, and I did. So I cut my thumb, making this the third time I've cut that thumb with a knife.

The cut is pretty bad, and hurts like a bitch, but the good news is that the bleeding slowed really quickly. That means that for the third time cutting that thumb, it's the third time I've missed an artery. And that I'm going to have matching scars on either side of my left thumb - one on the inside from this incident, and one on the outside from a trying to cut a tag off of a pair of socks with a pocket knife and being an idiot.
(There's another one, lower on the inside, from trying to cut a piece of poster board with an x-acto for a school project, but it's hardly visible.)

Also, I really hope that I have some super glue. Once the bleeding really stops, I'll use the army trick of closing it up with glue so it doesn't get infected.

Dear Japan: I love it when you make stuff like this. Please to be making more awesome oni hotheads/flirts/strongmen/break dancers Riders and less vampire bondage Riders.

Or, y'know. More Tendou Souji. The world needs more of him.

*Ahem* Yes, I adore Kamen Rider. Really, it's one of the few things from Japan I don't feel to be totally overrated. Except... the new one is bondage vampires. Bleeeh.

I'm going to be writing a monthly serial story for my school's newspaper from now on.
It has sky pirates! )

In other news, I've been feeling kind of sick all week. I think the stomach flu is going around school.

I've never been really satisfied with Face's costume. I think I may have finally found a design I'm happy with, though, and that would be the above. Of course, it would still have a Badass Long Coat over it.

Spent my labor day weekend... doing manual labor. My parents, sister, and myself were painting the exterior of my granddad's house. We got 4 of the 5 sides painted, but ran out of the main color of paint. Next weekend, my aunt and uncle will finish up the main part and start on the trim. We'll go back down in a couple of weeks to do touch ups. Weather was okay for the painting, and over all it went smoothly. Only real problem was that there was a lot of bags of manure in my granddad's garage, which was connected to the house, and right next to the walls we were painting. We had evil blood thirsty flies swarming all over us, biting us, and getting in the paint. I fucking hate bugs.

Whatever it is that's been making me sneeze was even worse at my granddad's house. I was sneezing every couple of minutes down there, and my eyes were really irritated. I took some allergy medicine, and that did help my eyes, but it made it so I couldn't breath through my nose. I'm doing okay now, with just a bit of sneezing.

Got my convention confirmation email today. Now, I need to really get to work on my costume. I still need for it:
- henna tattoo stuff
- urban camo vest
- finish my turtle helmet
- make a pirate flag

Should be able to get it all finished in time.

Painting-doodle of Amred to try and work out some artist's block.

Rant about my hate for a certain person )

So, it my last post, I sort of mentioned allergies. Well, lately, the burning eyes feeling has gone away. However the sneezing is still there. Today, I must have had at least five sneezing fits.

Also, on Monday, I had a really bad nose bleed. I was walking home, and was about two blocks away, and my nose just started dripping blood. I really couldn't do anything - there was no one around to help, and I didn't have any tissue. So I just sort of stood on the sidewalk, leaned forward a bit, and let it bleed. I was pretty much gushing blood for two minutes, then it slowed down, and I rushed home. I looked like I'd just killed someone, there was that much blood on my hands. And my left nostril oozed blood a bit for about ten minutes after the initial bleed. And since I'm still sneezing like mad, I'm really thinking I should consult a doctor.

Trying to work out how the DEC sleep. They couldn't sleep on their backs, because their tail would get in the way. But they're bipedal, so I don't really see them curling up like an animal. So, I'm thinking they sleep on their stomachs. This particular DEC is Z5. (Who I am trying to app in T9)

There was some angst here, but I deleted it. :B

On a lighter note, my english teacher keeps singing Dr. Horrible songs during class. :D Best teacher I've ever had, I swear.

Also, I think I've developed an allergy to mold. Earlier this year, in late winter, I was sneezing a lot and had dry eyes. Now, I'm also sneezing a lot, and it feels like my eyes aren't even producing tears right. Both times it's been when right after heavy snow/rain. I've never had any sinus allergies before (though, I have a skin allergy to nickel, like most all humans, and I can't do woodshop working with soft woods like mahogany, because it gives me a bad rash) so I'm not sure what to do. If I can avoid taking medication, I will, because I don't really like pills. But, it is kind of annoying.
amredthelector: (Default)

Doodle of Cy-T. Trying some new stuff out in photoshop.

So, I've been doing a lot of working out this week. Yard work with the pulaski, tai chi, and kung fu. Not to mention I got a really painful vaccination yesterday. All together, my arms and abs are killing me. But that's a good sign, right?

The slow posting in Trans 9 is driving me nuts. I love the game, but god is it annoying waiting for a mod. That's why I never start rps that depend on a sort of 'mod orientation' thread. But it's always hard trying to catch the attention of a mod that's working with, like, ten other people when you show up.

I finally got riolu in pokemon diamond. When I was first in Canalave, I didn't realize that Iron Island went deeper, so I just left after, like, the second room. So I got all the way to Sunnyshore before looking online and seeing that you get the riolu egg at Iron Island. So I back tracked and went through the whole thing and got the egg. I really do like riolu and lucario, but the only way to include it on my team is to get rid of my lopunny. And my lopunny's been with me forever. So... I dunno. I think I'll use it when just wandering around in the wild, and use lopunny in gym battles. I also caught Dialga a few days ago. It was pretty sweet - I caught it on the second ball toss, with an ultra ball. That's a first.

I'm going to a dragon boat race tomorrow. That'll be fun.
